Roll out the Kodak film

Roll out the Kodak

Life is happening as we speak and it has no plans of slowing down, and in fact it is actually speeding up if you haven’t already received the memo.

In my years of growing up we had more time to do stuff as technology wasn’t as prevalent and present as it is today in everyone’s life. If we wanted to take pictures there was no delete button and press again, it was take the whole roll of film (which were either 12, 24 or 36) and wait until those pics were developed to see how they turned out. If you wanted to meet with someone there was no cancelling at the last minute you just kept your word and turned up, and phones were connected to a landline.

We lived more in the moment than I believe we do today and with all this emphasis on mindfulness and wellness everywhere you turn reminding everyone to be more present it’s not hard to see that we have become beings of existence.

We have stopped living, we have stopped appreciating the moments that we are experiencing because there is always another moment, another opportunity, or something ahead to look forward to. What we are failing to realise is that we have limited moments only so much gifted time in our lives.

You are not going to be 18 again, you will not gain your virginity back, your parents are not going to be 40 forever, and your best friend may not see through the same years as you do. Life happens and if you are not moving with it living each moment you are robbing yourself of precious moments.

Life is a series of moments rolling by one after the next, some are curated by us, others by those around us, and the rest by forces out of our control. Roll out the film and live your life….freely. No filters, no “this is not my good side”, no “let’s take another shot”, and definitely no selfies, just you living out your life as it was intended.

Capture moments with your soul rather than with your selfie stick. Capture moments that take your breath away as opposed to those that make you count the hands on your watch. Capture the life that surrounds you rather than being absorbed into the false one in your hand.

Live each moment fully, appreciate those in your life and what they have to offer you, and make your time here a memorable one for yourself if no one else.

Sometimes it’s nice to let life unfold and show you it’s own photo album without the negatives.
